Oh! What a gift, what a wonderful gift! It was for the forty-some Marianites who were privileged to travel together, live together and most of all be present for the beatification of our dear founder, Blessed Basil Anthony Moreau. How very privileged we were to have all the travel and housing arrangements so graciously prepared by our gracious administration. It was so much fun and joy for each of us, but most of all because we were together.
The visits to the Monastery of Solesmes and Precigne were truly a spiritual and community experience. Praying with monks of Solesmes was a treat, lunch with our Sisters at Precigne brought tears to my eyes. Why? Because of the special kind of ministry at Precigne - special people - who touch the heart of all who tour the place. Tears because many of us are getting older and can no longer exercise leadership in such special places. It was even more tearful to say good-bye because I may never see this place again.
This stirred up memories as far back as 1988 when my dear friend, Sister Allie, and I attended the Holy Cross International Sessions and toured Precigne and were so touched at the sight of the patients there.
My prayer before, during and after this wonderful trip has been “Blessed Basil Anthony Moreau, send us people to continue your work.” The strains of the song keep echoing in my head.
Lunch with our Sisters at the Solitude was a special treat. We were able to reconnect with the Sisters and tour the Archives. Much as changed since my last visit.
What was special at the prayer service in Laigne’-en-Belin was the representation of Holy Cross from around the world. This was a powerful experience. The prayer vigil at Notre-Dame de Sainte-Croix was special because it involved all the administrators from the three branches of Holy Cross. I was so proud to be a part of Holy Cross. The throngs at the beatification added to the wonder of what was actually happening and the reality that we were there. The Mass of thanksgiving at St. Julian Cathedral was an inspiring climax to this awe-filled week.
Most of all I am grateful to the administration who so beautifully orchestrated the trip from beginning to end and the most generous benefactor who afforded this opportunity to us.
Oh! What a gift, what a wonderful gift! Blessed Basil Anthony Moreau, pray for us.
